Writer on a Horse
And a Dog

The world looks better from the back of a horse and the roads of life are easier with a good dog beside you.

I love my dog and my granddogs too

I love my dog, not in the way I love my grandbabies but you know my dog loves me no matter what... if I'm happy she's happy... if I 'm sad she's happy to sit by me and let me know she loves me...she runs to meet me when I come home and begs to stay with me always. Here is a poem I wrote for a friend when she lost her dog. Hope you enjoy.

Good Old Dog

When God saw that man needed visual instruction,
He created dog.
God told dog,
Go be a companion to man.
Teach him unconditional love,
faithfulness, forgiveness, obedience,
and fearless protection.
Dog consider all this and asked,
“What will my reward be for this instruction?”
“You will be part of me”, said God.

Good
Old
Dog

We should all be like a dog.

Love like there’s no tomorrow.
Stand before danger fearless with teeth bared
Forgive any wrong, no matter how hurtful
Be content to be
Face your maker and be joyful
when you hear good old dog.

From left to right the dogs are
Lillie Lexie (my dog) Levi

LIfe is like Kudzu

Life is like kudzu, it takes over everything and leaves nothing for your creative soul... what to do?? Buy a cow! Cows love to eat kudzu. I know you're say "What?"
All I'm saying, change something in your life to make time for your writing. Put things in prospective... you have to feed the family and do the laundry but you don't have to watch that reality show on TV or go to the mall to window shop.
Hey that's another grip I have. The family went to a wedding Saturday afternoon and my oldest granddaughter took one look at me and said..."You need to go shopping. That dress is old timey." What does that mean??? It was a button up the front, neat collar, straight skirt, little tucks at the waist light green colored dress. I should have wore my jeans!

Dealing with teenagers, a no cope zone for old Granny

I really don't like the whole business of handling teenagers. They "know" so much to have so little experience. But I figured this problem out.... yep the magic words... "Call you mother about that!" Thank you Lord for cell phones. A few calls to Mom while she's paddling a canoe down the creek did the trick.
Now I know all of y'all notice I found a picture of a skinny young girl... well I had to make myself feel better and putting a pudgy old woman up would not help my mood.

Let kids be kids and you will stay young

I went to make the bed in the grandkids room (aka my daughters old room)on Saturday morning and this is what I saw. Now don't get the idea that this is all of the little furry creatures. I have a closet full and several bins upstairs put away for someone else to get rid of in the future. My babies and I just can't part with them. The two youngest slept in this bed and I only let them sleep with a certain number of animals. If I didn't limit the number every one would be on the bed. Here's my point, I never limit them to one or two.... let them have as many as they can and still have room on the bed for them, You're a child a small potion of your life... let them enjoy it.
And for you writers out there, remember to let you characters be imperfect kids... not a person on this earth is perfect, except of course ME hehehehehe

Quilting with kids

Three of my four grandbabies started their quilts this weekend. They loved it and are fast learners... Kelsey, one of the barn's kid, is making one too. They were up past midnight the last two nights sewing and picking out pieces for the next row. I love making memories with my babies... but I'm pooped and heading to bed. Getting old sucks... or my gosh did I say that out loud..hehehe well it does.

Summertime and the living is hard dang it

I know the songs says easy but the person that wrote that song didn't live in the south during July and August. Garden work, yard work and playing all done in 90 plus degrees. Bugs eating your garden and you. Grass growing as you watch. Air so thick with humidity you have to have a fan to chop it up before you inhale. And sweaty people everywhere. Ah yes, summertime in the south... God's country. You can't have everything perfect all the time. Sweet Home Alabama, thank goodness there is air conditioning.

My fourth of July poem... I only write deep feels in poems

Freedom

Freedom to worship in the church of my choice
Feeds my spiritual soul

Freedom to study and read
Helps me reach my intellectual goal

Freedom to strive for a better life
Is the democratic way

Freedom to vote in elections
Gives me a political say

Freedom to express my beliefs and views
Allows me a literary voice

Freedom to agree or disagree on issues
Fulfills my activist choice

Freedom to protect my family and country
Is my patriotic right

All these freedoms & rights are mine to use
If they don’t infringe on the freedoms & rights
Belonging to you

I just had that great feeling you get when your character lets your story move

Emma (main character) has been stubborn and would not let my story move... she has been speaking to me the last few days and BAM she acted out the next chapter of course I was the only one that could see her performance. Burning Bridges might get done this summer after all.

When should you say I give

Why can't men say... I'm stuck... This picture is of my husband's truck before he put it about another foot in that gravel. Notice my dog had faith he would win but I baled from the truck when the bumper hit gravel. He slung rocks and a friend nearly got his truck stuck helping... or at least that is what he said... helping! Looked like two good ole boys playing to me. I took my friend (Irene), her son, my grandbabies and the dog and hitched a ride home. Well not really hitched, we walked to the road and I went to Matt's house (young man I've known most of his life) knocked on his door and said take me home. He did. Never a dull moment at my house.

Gross alert

We took the kids to the creek Monday afternoon and the two sweet girls had leeches attached to them. Now I know some of y'all are freaking but they don't carry germs like ticks and fleas and are much easier to remove because they don't embed their heads like ticks.
The grandbabies thought my description of a leech was cool. They are slimy ticks.
