Spiritual Journey First Thursday

I'm taking part this year in Spiritual Journey First Thursday and will be hosting it in July

Today I will be commenting on
Leigh Anne Eck  histurn.blogspot.com
one little word for 2017

What fun to get and receive impute from so many different personalities.

Here we go:

I like to get the down to brass tack part first... definition
Noun
  1. 1.
an upward movement; an instance of becoming higher.
  2. 2.
an increase in amount, extent, size, or number.

    synonyms:increasehikeleapupsurgeupswingclimbescalation

  3. So those are nice words to becoming higher, to leap, to climb
  4. My question is why... the answer is easy (I like easy answers) to become more, better, to evolve into a more complete you.... yea I'm in.
  5. At her blog Leigh Anne talks about her rise for this year.  It sounds like she has the perfect road map to a year escalated with joy, happiness and goals reached.

  6. Okay rise to me for the year...I'm so bad... I set goals but never reach them... I start them but always another project lures me away.

  7. My rise will be to stretch for the next branch on the tree of my goal.  I'm going to leave those other projects on the ground (or in my case the kitchen table) until I'm finished with what I've started.

I've already started my spiritual rise with meditation... I stop for just a few minutes to realize how blessed I am.

here are some of my favorite quotes about rise

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Great minds have purpose, others have wishes. Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortunes; but great minds rise above them.”Washington Irving

and finally I want to share one of my favorite poems, why??  because we're all slaves to something

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Nice to meet you on this Spiritual Journey Thursday path, Patricia! I believe Margaret mentioned Maya Angelou's poem in her post--what a lovely surprise to find it here in full, and full of spirit and verve and courage and sassiness. I also like your picture of rising to the next branch to finish what you've started. Now that makes RISE do-able.

Pat, you did a beautiful job with this post! Thank you for the concrete reminders of definition and quotes... and for your heartfelt thoughts. You keep going to that next branch! And hello, I have seen your kitchen table. So much goodness happens there. I love sharing the journey with you. xo

Thank you for joining us and for sharing my one little word. I have enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts on RISE and there have been so many different perspectives. It certainly gives me some new things to think about.

I rise.
I rise.
I rise.

I love Maya Angelou's poem... and I especially like your statement introducing it: "and finally I want to share one of my favorite poems, why?? because we're all slaves to something." You caused me to read her poem with new eyes ... it became even more personal.

Thanks everyone for you're kind comments. I stressed a little about posting. ... Not because I was afraid of posting but rather worried I wouldn't say it right... I'm not as gifted with words as some in this group but that being said, it doesn't mean I don't feel passion for subjects. Those that have had the pleasure 😜 Of knowing me think I'm fearless which I'm but I'm also cautious where others feelings are involve ....

I am slow getting around here lately...
But wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading this this morning. As Alice said, "because we are all slaves to something" was what clinched it...
Thanks for rising to this occasion!
