Between shades of gray by Ruta Sepetys

In 1941, fifteen-year-old Lina, her mother, and brother are pulled from their Lithuanian home by Soviet guards and sent to Siberia, where her father is sentenced to death in a prison camp while she fights for her life, vowing to honor her family and the thousands like hers by burying her story in a jar on Lithuanian soil. Based on the author's family, includes a historical note.

If you have not read this book, you need to start looking for it now.

Ruta is a wonderful, sweet, smart, talented... okay enough adjectives... to learn more about her and her book, visit her website...

I just looked at the Mock List for the Newbery and I need to add something to my New Year list... I read zero books on the list. Zero! I couldn't tell you anything about any of the books... except maybe "Okay for Now" and Irene has been telling me I really need to read that book.

Between Shades of Gray is a story that should not only be read, it should be shared -- passed from one to another like Lina's handkerchief.
