Things my Kids will put in a yard sale

I'm a keeper... of things, memories, stories, books (although I'm not as much as I once was... got rid of several of my Civil War books but they only went to Ron's house.)

I love buttons... why?... well they make me wonder about the people that once buttoned them... about the stories they've heard and been apart of... they remind me of how we're all different like a jar full of buttons from thousand of different garments.

I love old books... Why?  well when I look at them or read them, I hear between the lines... untold stories or what could have been

I love a old man... Why?  well I ask myself that about every day.  I guess I love him so much because he knows ME ... the good, the bad and the ugly and he still loves me.

I love my babies, my children , my chickens (whose number will be increasing come end of March) my horse... really any horse.. and my dog... really most dogs.

But back to the yard sale items... most things I cherish my kids don't like... my plates on the wall, my horse figurine, my rocks, my pottery... the list goes on and on but what they do with things after I'm gone doesn't matter to me... they're special to me and I will keep them close for all of my life... oh yeah, I forget my coffee mugs (and I make sure my friends have plenty of them too)

I love shadow boxes for love ones that have left us... here is my father-in-law's navy shadow box..

Missy asked me once to put a note on the bottom of GOOD stuff so she wouldn't sell it to cheap at a yard sale.... sorry girlfriend... you're on your on!  She was joking.... I think... or not.

Kissie Kissie

That is what my mother would always say when we left for school... we would be bounding out the door and she would yell "Kissie, kissie... have a good day."

My grandson has this face that draws girl's lips... and don't let the pictures fool ya... he loves it.
I remember when he was about four and we was in Walmart... this older lady walked by us and rubbed his hair... people would aways rub his hair and say "What pretty red hair."
Kane asked me as the lady was walking away... Granny, why does everyone rub my hair... I said, It for luck buddy.  It's like rubbing a good luck charm.... Kane thought about this for a few minutes then said, Granny, it's not too lucky for me... I don't like people rubbing my hair.

That made me think how we all do things and sometimes we don't consider how it makes others feel.

Valentine's Day is this week and I'm sure I'll get what I've got the last 43 years...it sure doesn't make me fat.... now 44 years ago I got candy and flowers...not just from Mr. Weaver, from several boys  hehehehehe  once you marry them they stop trying to win ya.

Lake has a new little boyfriend and I asked her, "You going to dump him after Valentine's Day?"
Lake frowned and said, "NO!  That would be mean."
Jase, who just broke up with her boyfriend, said, "I'm going to get chocolate for my cat."
I said, "You'll come out better to buy your own flowers and candy and leave those boys alone."
They both said together, "GRANNY!"

Can't believe Lake is going to be 16 in two months and Jase will be 19 and Kane 13  All April babies

Kissie, Kissie to you all and hope you find your sweet Valentine.

Happy belated Ground Hog Day... a friend (thanks Wanda... I used your cute picture) asked on her blog where did this tradition start and why a ground hog.... you know they are mean little boogers.  Well without looking it up or thinking about too much, I would say that the ground hog comes out of it den to breed sometime around the first of February... like skunks..  oh believe those little stinkers are out and about... just ask my son Ron who had to de-skunk his house after the dogs got one in his garage.  Phewwwww

My first encounter with a ground hog didn't end happy.  I was maybe eight years old and I had a springer spaniel name Ginger.   Ginger had nine puppies under the crib floor of the barn.  One morning I heard her barking and ran out to see what was the matter.  She was trying to stop a ground hog that had one of her puppies in it's mouth.  Of course I ran to help.  When the ground hog saw me it either made it mad or scared it but it shook that poor puppy killing it.  I stood there horrified but Ginger was irate.  She pounced on that rodent and injured it bad but you have to know that hog was nearly as big and Ginger.  Daddy came out and told me to get Ginger.  She really didn't like that idea and nipped me twice before I could get her by the collar.  Daddy took a shovel and killed the ground hog then went to look for it's den.  He found it on the backside of the pond.  The ground hog had been a mommy and her four babies were waiting in the den.  Daddy took care of them too.  Logan, my brother, and I had a very nice funeral for the puppy and Ginger went back to caring for her puppies.

I guess that was the day I learned there is no place for varmints on a farm.

Being a Mommy when you're just a kid

That is what I did 43 years ago today. I was eighteen and poor and totally happy. No my baby didn't get a college fund set up when she was born (good thing since education wasn't really her idea of fun... I mean really she went to a two year junior college three and a half years and still didn't graduate), My baby didn't have a perfect nursery... no she slept in a crib next to our bed for two years because we lived in a small house that only had one bedroom, my baby didn't have all the things money could buy but... she went everywhere with me and her Daddy... we played with her, took her to parks, swimming, horse riding,  we did anything she wanted to try.... we took our kids camping every summer and it was really camping where you slept in the back of a pickup with a camper shell and the only light at night was a campfire. I was room mother, team mother, take to the game mother, football, basketball, baseball, cheerleader practice ... haul the drinks, sell the tickets, ask for donations, sit in the rain (even at a basketball game but that is another story)

Melissa Anne has two beautiful daughters of her own now and she might not think her old mother is right about anything... except how she was raised... she has pretty much raised her girls like we raised her... except they get anything they want. Spoiled but that okay they're my grandbabies.

Love ya Missy Pooh... no matter what color you dye your hair.

Don't pay the ransom, I escaped

I figured y'all thought I've been kidnapped or something... well I sort of was... life captured my time and held me for ransom but I escaped and I'm back to doing fun things like saying HI to all of my friends. the picture is of my beautiful grandparents Velma and Logan (senior) Trousdale. Not really sure when this picture was taken but I don't remember them looking like this so I would say late forties or early fifties.

The joys of being a sloth

Saturday was my first weekend that I didn't work or have holiday events to get ready for ... my first weekend to do nothing...and I didn't
I slept to 7:30 am thanks to sinus medicine and moved from the bed to the couch ... it took hours to convince myself that I needed to get something to eat or to go the bathroom... okay maybe just minutes on the bathroom.
I napped, then when I woke up decided that nap made me tried and napped to get over the first nap.
I watched movies all day ... sort of ... watched parts of movies .. stayed in my pj's and remained stinky.. because it just took to much energy to even think about a shower.  Finally at 9 pm I got off the couch and went to bed... I was back to normal the next day but let me tell you that day of being a sloth was wonderful.
Here's hoping you get to be a sloth one day soon.

Old Saying.... If it rains on the first day of the month

It will rain fifteen days that month.... really?? We'll see won't we.  Ronnie showed me an old Farmer's Almanac that said how goes the weather on the first day of the year will be how the year will go... really?  I don't like all this gloom.... yes it was raining today... damp, cold day but everyone was going to stay inside today anyway and watch football, right.

If rain drops were kisses, everyone would dance in it.
If snowflakes were secrets, everyone one would raise their face to listen.

This week started my reduced work load... You better get ready Sandy girl... Thursday is going to be the day we meet for the first time this year.

I don't know about all of you but I ate too much today.  If black-eye peas are really for money ... well I'm going to be rich and if hog jowl is really for luck... look out Tunica... because I'll be so lucky I would bust the bank.
