Writer on a Horse
And a Dog

The world looks better from the back of a horse and the roads of life are easier with a good dog beside you.

Being a Mommy when you're just a kid

That is what I did 43 years ago today. I was eighteen and poor and totally happy. No my baby didn't get a college fund set up when she was born (good thing since education wasn't really her idea of fun... I mean really she went to a two year junior college three and a half years and still didn't graduate), My baby didn't have a perfect nursery... no she slept in a crib next to our bed for two years because we lived in a small house that only had one bedroom, my baby didn't have all the things money could buy but... she went everywhere with me and her Daddy... we played with her, took her to parks, swimming, horse riding,  we did anything she wanted to try.... we took our kids camping every summer and it was really camping where you slept in the back of a pickup with a camper shell and the only light at night was a campfire. I was room mother, team mother, take to the game mother, football, basketball, baseball, cheerleader practice ... haul the drinks, sell the tickets, ask for donations, sit in the rain (even at a basketball game but that is another story)

Melissa Anne has two beautiful daughters of her own now and she might not think her old mother is right about anything... except how she was raised... she has pretty much raised her girls like we raised her... except they get anything they want. Spoiled but that okay they're my grandbabies.

Love ya Missy Pooh... no matter what color you dye your hair.

Don't pay the ransom, I escaped

I figured y'all thought I've been kidnapped or something... well I sort of was... life captured my time and held me for ransom but I escaped and I'm back to doing fun things like saying HI to all of my friends. the picture is of my beautiful grandparents Velma and Logan (senior) Trousdale. Not really sure when this picture was taken but I don't remember them looking like this so I would say late forties or early fifties.

The joys of being a sloth

Saturday was my first weekend that I didn't work or have holiday events to get ready for ... my first weekend to do nothing...and I didn't
I slept to 7:30 am thanks to sinus medicine and moved from the bed to the couch ... it took hours to convince myself that I needed to get something to eat or to go the bathroom... okay maybe just minutes on the bathroom.
I napped, then when I woke up decided that nap made me tried and napped to get over the first nap.
I watched movies all day ... sort of ... watched parts of movies .. stayed in my pj's and remained stinky.. because it just took to much energy to even think about a shower.  Finally at 9 pm I got off the couch and went to bed... I was back to normal the next day but let me tell you that day of being a sloth was wonderful.
Here's hoping you get to be a sloth one day soon.

Old Saying.... If it rains on the first day of the month

It will rain fifteen days that month.... really?? We'll see won't we.  Ronnie showed me an old Farmer's Almanac that said how goes the weather on the first day of the year will be how the year will go... really?  I don't like all this gloom.... yes it was raining today... damp, cold day but everyone was going to stay inside today anyway and watch football, right.

If rain drops were kisses, everyone would dance in it.
If snowflakes were secrets, everyone one would raise their face to listen.

This week started my reduced work load... You better get ready Sandy girl... Thursday is going to be the day we meet for the first time this year.

I don't know about all of you but I ate too much today.  If black-eye peas are really for money ... well I'm going to be rich and if hog jowl is really for luck... look out Tunica... because I'll be so lucky I would bust the bank.

Hello 2013... what surprises do you hold for the world

Closing the book on 2012 has been easy.... It really has not been a great year.  We lost our sweet Kevin in February and the days and weeks since have been full of bitter sweet memories.
I've done NO writing this year.
I've worked to hard and too long and forgot to play.  My son had heart surgery and my husband has had a couple of health issues.
I know we're getting older but really scary when you can see and feel the age creeping in.

1.  Finish Forever Graceland
2. Plot out the other two books in my brain
3. Enter at least four contest
4. Ride my horse at least once a week

That is my list... doesn't look too bad

Unexpected Treasures

Don't you just love it when you're doing a job that has to be done but brings so many sad feelings.  This was what I was doing yesterday... helping brother by going through pictures of Aunt LoLo (who pasted just over two years ago) and her part of the pictures from Aunt Ella who died several years ago.
Every picture of her trips and friends made me sad because those pictures meant something to her but to anyone else they are pictures of places they've not been and of people they don't know.
I was over half done when this little envelope appeared.... post mark Dayton, Ohio with the date of Aug 7, 1951 and the address written in my mothers handwriting.... tears spring to my eyes
I looked at Ronnie and held it up... "Do you think this is what I'm thinking it is?"
He said, "Open it and see."  Men... no sense of adventure

A picture is worth a thousand words... it really is with this... this little treasure made me so happy because ... one, my mother wrote it and sent it ... two, my aunt kept it all these years, and three, it's a family treasure I can pass on to my family.

It;s all fun and games until someone turns out to be road kill

that is what my children said to me Saturday night.  They also said they were going to get me one of those buttons you push ----Help I've fallen and I can't get up.... I got up!!! slow but I got up.

Here's the story,  It was about 6:45 pm and I just got home from work... went to the chicken house to gather the eggs before going home... put the 11 eggs in my shirt tail...pulled into driveway and stopped to check mail... got out with my pin flashlight.... stepped on the edge of the road that is much higher than the shoulder.... BAM  fell and because I had eggs in my shirt tail and my hands were full with that and the flashlight I hit my shoulder and then my knee but my hand holding the eggs hit the gravel and bled like crazy.  Broke all 11 eggs... lost my flashlight which Ronnie found next day about 10 feet down the ditch.  Ronnie fussed because I had the eggs in my shirt instead in a basket where the belonged.  He said, "What would have happened if you had hit your head?"   I said, "It would have knocked me out and some redneck driver would have ran over me and then I would have been road kill for Christmas."  He said, "You're not funny."
Now in truth, that was funny ... wasn't it...
I'm fine.  Just added a few dings to this old body. I'm not showing my knee because then I would have to shave my legs and I'm too lazy to do that.  This picture is of my shoulder three days later.
